The lineage of the Mother School...

For over 20 years, Women Writing for (a) Change® has provided a safe and non-competitive environment for individuals to develop their writing skills, cultivate their creativity and strengthen their voices.  At WWf(a)C, our writers, whether first-timers or the more experienced, find community, connection and meaningful conversation within writing circles.  Born out of the Mother School in Cincinnati, WWfaC, Central Ohio offers core-circle classes in both Dayton and Columbus.

We encourage writing as a process of self-discovery and self-expression—a celebration of the individual voice. Our classes provide a unique setting in which honoring each other’s words enriches participants’ lives.

History/Herstory

Women Writing for (a) Change was founded in 1991 by Mary Pierce Brosmer as a writing school that has evolved in its over two decades into a force for personal and communal transformation. Rooted in the Conscious Feminine, WWf(a)C serves its participants and related communities guided by values and practices of truth-telling, empowerment, nurture-with-rigor, transparency, vulnerability, conscious collaboration, depth orientation, hospitality, and a capacity to live in paradox.

A former English teacher and practicing poet, Mary gathered a group of fifteen women for a weekly writing class, using circle practices, establishing confidentiality, and creating a safe space for honest feedback. Growth has been organic, coming from within the lives of the founder, staff, faculty members, and the countless women, men and girls who have attended classes. Through the Cincinnati school, people ages 9-95 attend core semester classes, weekend writing retreats, mini-series sessions, Saturday theme classes, and a variety of community events. Participants experience the inspiration and safety created by expert teacher-facilitators, and a vibrant, hospitable container for evoking what is theirs to tell.
